Apraxia: Basics and Beyond

Definition  -   a neurological pediatric speech disorder characterized by poor planning and programming of speech sound sequences.  Prevalence -  one child per 1,000. (approximately one child per elementary school, or two elementary schools) Cooccurring Conditions  -  language disorder,  fine and gross motor impairments (50 to 80%) Core Impairment - planning and/or programming of spatiotemporal parameters of movement sequences results in: errors in speech sound production and prosody.
